FAQ
What is a Colonic?
Colon hydrotherapy is the gentle non-pressurized therapeutic rinsing of the colon using warm, purified water to eliminate compacted faecal matter, gas, mucus and toxins.
Throughout the treatment the abdomen is lightly massaged to loosen and stimulate congested matter.
With the majority, it reduces bloating, helps to reduce bowel irregularity and leaves you feeling refreshed and clear-headed.
Why have a Colonic?
The main aim is to promote better physiological function in respect to detoxification and often leads to a feeling of rejuvenation and relief from bloating, IBS, constipation and many other associated problems.
Do you combine treatments?
I usually recommend realistic dietary changes in combination with a colonic in order to gain maximum benefit and maintain long-term relief. Sometimes natural remedies such as digestive mixes (see Remedy page) can be of significant benefit. This is not as far reaching as my Dietary Consultations (see Dietary page).
Is it safe?
Colonics are medically-approved using very low pressure and carried out using a strict sterilisation process.
The water is purified and administered using a very low gravity feed.
A different towel is used for each patient.
What can I eat before and after Colonic Hydrotherapy?
Eat light meals, drink plenty of water and preferably no alcohol the day before and after the treatment.
I don’t recommend fasting unless you are undertaking a specific cleanse and we have discussed it.
Will it hurt?
CH is relatively painless. Very occasionally the bowel can spasm slightly, when clearing a lot of gas or congestion; it’s very short-lived.
How many treatments will I need?
This varies according to the individual. Usually, a session once every month - 6 weeks. 4-6 sessions is optimal, followed by less frequent maintenance, when needed.
Are there any contraindications?
- If you are recovering from recent colon surgery
- If you suffer with a form of inflammatory bowel disease and your gut is in an acute stage of inflammation
- Severe kidney disease
Ladies: Can I have a treatment when I am menstruating?
Yes, unless you are experiencing a lot of pain or nausea.
